Off School Sailing is not a classic sailing school, but a systematic program that teaches participants how to coexist with the sea in all conditions. While summer sailing often relies on tourist infrastructure, the winter program shifts the focus inward. In these conditions, participants become directly dependent on their own skills and knowledge of the vessel, ranging from navigation and meteorology to maintenance, organization, and life on board.
The program is set up so that participants assume all responsibilities from day one. The workday begins with theory and route planning on nautical charts, followed by several hours of sailing. The routes cover the entire Adriatic, from the Elaphite Islands to Kvarner, with the starting point in Vodice due to its specific archipelago, which offers the necessary protection and an ideal training ground for learning in all weather conditions.
Through several journeys, I participated as an active crew member and documentary photographer. The goal was to capture the work processes and everyday life within the school, focusing on the atmosphere, work tasks, and the dynamics of life in the isolation of the boat.
