In the villages at the foot of Mount Kamešnica in the Cetina Region, the tradition of carnival pageants has been preserved for more than 300 years. This event, which is also a protected cultural heritage, is based on strict rules passed down through generations. The procession is visually divided into the "white masqueraders" (flag-bearers and wedding guests), the "comedy", and finally the "black masqueraders".
The central part of the procession consists of the "Didi", masked figures wearing sheepskins up to 1.5 meters high and heavy bells around their waists. Dressed in colorful tassels with their faces blackened by soot, the Didi ritualistically drive away evil spirits and summon spring through constant jumping and noise.
The pageant represents one of the most energetic manifestations of folk customs in Dalmatia. The entire event is marked by a constant dynamic of movement and the visual chaos that the "Didi" create as they pass through the villages.
